Drumstick Fish Curry

If you’re looking for a new fish curry recipe and want to try something different this is one of the best fish curry recipes. The fresh drumsticks added to it give it more flavor than just a plain fish curry. I think it’s a great idea! Here I have used tender and fresh drumsticks and cut into small pieces.

Drumstick Fish Curry

Moringa is popularly known as drumstick in India. This tropical fast-growing tree is native to the Indian subcontinent. Drumsticks are used in the form of vegetable and pickles. They also have a host of medicinal properties. In this recipe, I have added drumstick pieces to the fish curry along with coconut oil and spices to make a simple Kerala style dish. The Moringa vegetable is called drumstick and it can be cooked in many different ways.

The Moringa leaves are rich in nutrients and the Moringa leaves have been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine.

Adding fresh drumsticks to the fish curry adds extra flavor and taste to the curry. The curry is easy to make as there is no need for deep frying or lengthy time cooking process. This recipe is well known in Kerala and Tamil Nadu food, where it is widely consumed.

Ingredients

  • 1 Kg. Fresh Water Fish

  • 3 tbsp. Oil

  • Few Curry Leaves

  • 1 Drumstick cut

  • 2 tbsp. Fish masala powder or Sambar powder

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 to 3 cups Water

  • For Masala
  • 1 Big Onion

  • 10 to 15 Garlic

  • 1/2 inch Ginger

  • 1/2 cup Fresh Coconut

  • Tamarind (Small lemon size)

  • 2 Green Chilies

  • 1/8 tsp Turmeric Powder

Directions

  • Firstly, clean fish and keep it aside.
  • For Masala: heat a pan and add in oil, garlic, ginger, green chilies, and onion. Sauté till the onions becomes translucent. Then allow it to cool down and transfer it into a mixer jar.
  • Further, add in fresh coconut, turmeric powder, tamarind. And grind it into smooth paste. Then keep it aside.
  • Now heat a pan and add in oil, sliced big onion, and fresh cut drumsticks. Sauté for 2 minutes in low flame.
  • Later add in ground masala paste, required water and red chili powder or sambar powder or Fish masala powder. Then give a mix.
  • Salt to taste.
  • Close the lid and allow it to cook for 20 to 25 minutes in low flame.
  • Finally, add in fresh curry leaves and switch off the flame.
  • Now the tasty Drumstick Fish Curry is ready to serve.

How to make Drumstick Fish Curry:
