Bansi Rava Upma Recipe

Bansi Rava Upma or Bansi rava uppittu, Karnataka Uppittu recipe, Sooji Upma, Semolina upma is one of the healthy, delicious and tasty breakfast recipe. It is one of the Karnataka special upma recipe. In this upma we can add in vegetable like carrots, capsicum, potatoes, green peas, beans, chow chow etc., So, the ingredients used in this recipe are bansi rava, onion, ginger garlic paste, oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, hing, tomatoes, curry leaves, urad dal, channa dal, vegetables like carrot, beans, capsicum, salt to taste, water as required.

How to make Bansi Rava Upma or Uppittu:

Firstly heat a pan and a dry roast bansi rava till slightly golden brown. Keep it aside.

Heat a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, channa dal, hing, chopped onion, turmeric powder, curry leaves, green chili, ginger garlic paste. Fry for 1 minute.

On the other side boil required water for upma.

Then add in chopped carrot, capsicum, beans. Even we can add other vegetables like potato, geen peas, chow chow etc.

Then add in chopped tomatoes and mix well.

Then add in required water and salt to taste. Then allow it to boil.

Then add in grated coconut, chopped coriander leaves. Give a mix.

Later add in roasted rava and keep stirring continuously to avoid lumps.

Close the lid and cook for 5 to 8 minutes in low flame. Finally the bansi rava upma is ready to serve.

Bansi Rava Upma or Uppittu is a healthy and tasty breakfast recipe. It is one of the Karnataka special recipe.

  • Pan
  • 1 cup Bansi rava
  • 3 tbsp Oil
  • ¼ tsp Mustard seeds and cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Urad dal and Channa dal
  • 4 Green chilies or Red chilies
  • 1 tbsp Peanuts
  • 2 string Curry leaves
  • 1 big Onion
  • ¼ tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • ⅛ tsp Turmeric powder
  • Pinch of hing
  • ½ cup Carrot
  • ¼ cup Capsicum
  • ¼ cup Beans
  • ¼ cup Chow chow
  • 1 Chopped Tomato
  • 3 cups Water
  • Salt as per taste
  1. Firstly dry roast rava till slightly golden brown. Then keep it aside.

  2. Now again heat a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, channa dal, peanuts, turmeric powder, curry leaves, hing, chopped onions. Fry for one minute.

  3. The add in chopped vegetables, tomatoes and cook till the vegetables are 80 percent cooked.

  4. Then add in required water, salt to taste, grated coconut, chopped coriander leaves. And allow it to boil.

  5. Later add in roasted rava slowly and keep stirring continuously without forming lumps. And close the lid and cook for 5 to 7 minutes in low flame.

  6. Finally the bansi rava upma is ready to serve.
