Ingredients
1/2 cup Toor dal or Masoor dal
300 grams Fresh ash gourds
3 cups water
1 onion medium
1 Tomato medium
Few curry leaves
1 tbsp. Sambar powder
1/2 tsp Red chili powder (adjust as per your spice level)
1/2 cup Coconut milk
1 tbsp. Tamarind juice
Salt to taste
- For Seasoning
2 tbsp. Oil/Ghee
1 small onion
1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
Few curry leaves
Pinch of hing
Directions
- Firstly, heat a pan or pressure cooker and add in water, allow it to boil. Later add in rinsed toor dal.
- Then add in sliced onion, tomato and few curry leaves. And then close the lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
- Further, heat another pan and add in oil/ghee, mustard seeds, onion, hing, few curry leaves. Later add in cooked dal and cleaned and cut ash gourd. Allow it to cook till the ash gourd are completely cooked.
- Salt to taste.
- Later add in coconut milk and allow to boil for 5 minutes under medium flame.
- Little tamarind juice and boil for another 3 minutes.
- Finally, tasty ash gourd sambar is ready to serve.
