Ingredients used:

Ingredients used in this Kara Pongal are Little Millet or Samme, Black Pepper, Cumin seeds, Green chilli chopped, Oil, Split Moong dal, Turmeric Powder, Ghee, Curry leaves, Ginger, Hing that is Asafoetida, Salt, water, Coriander leaves for garnishing and even you can also add roasted cashew nuts.

Instead of water you can also add coconut milk which gives more flavor to the dish but I have used water in this dish. More important is that to make it more authentic some people will add ghee which makes the dish more delicious and healthy.

You can also prepare Kara pongal with rice too. Even when you prepare with rice it tastes great and easy to prepare. But Millet is more heathier than rice if you compare between. Ingredients used for rice kara pongal is also same only the soaking of rice not required directly you can cook rice till soft and rest all the procedure is same.

 

You can also prepare Sweet pongal it can be a best combination with Kara pongal. Usually whenever I prepare kara pongal I make sure to prepare Medu vada along with that as a sides I make Coconut chutney, it is a superb combination. I Love this combination and it can be a best and healthy breakfast to start a day with. But if you make the same recipe with millet’s it makes the dish more healthy and delicious. Little Millet Kara Pongal

Little Millet or Samme Kara Pongal is a healthy and tasty breakfast recipe. Try and enjoy the dish.

  • ½ Cup Soaked Little Millet
  • ¼ Cup Roasted Moong dal
  • ¼ tsp Black Pepper
  • ¼ tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp Coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • ¼ tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 Spring Curry leaves
  • 7 to 8 Cashewnuts
  • Pinch Turmeric Powder
  • Salt (As per taste)
  • 3 Cups Water
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • Little Ginger grated
  • 1 tbsp Grated coconut
  • Pinch Hing
  • 2 Dry chili
  1. Firstly soak the Millet overnight or 3 to 4 hours.

  2. Dry roast the Moong dal.

  3. Pressure cook the Millet and roasted Moong dal for 3 whistle.

  4. Add in Turmeric powder and Ginger grated.

  5. Prepare Tadka by adding oil, mustard, cumin, curry, chilli, hing. Give a mix.

  6. Add in roasted cahew nuts, coriander leaves and ghee.

  7. Now the Little Millet or Samme Millet Kara Pongal is ready to serve.

  1. I forgot to add in cashew nuts, but if you want you can add in.

How to make Millet Pongal Recipe:

Soak the Millet overnight or 3 to 4 hours.
