Ragi is also known as Finger Millet. Ragi is an extremely nutritious millet, that resembles mustard seeds in appearance. It has got many health benefits such as it helps in weight loss, healthy skin, cools body.
Ragi Roti is a very nutritious and traditional food. It can be healthy breakfast recipe to begin a day with. To make it more healthy and tasty you can add your favorite leafy green vegetables such as drumstick leaves, fenugreek or methi leaves,dill leaves, coriander leaves or curry leaves and grated veggies like grated Bottle gourd, grated Chow Chow, grated Carrot, grated Radish, and grated pumpkin. You can also add roasted peanuts, chopped coconuts. It goes well with coconut or peanut chutneys, I usually have it with this two chutneys.
With Finger Millet or Ragi you can also prepare variety of recipes. Recipes like you can make Ragi/Finger Millet Semiya, Ragi Puttu Recipe, Ragi Upma, Ragi Malt, Ragi ball, Ragi Papad, Ragi Halbai, Ragi Ganji, Ragi Dosa, Ragi Idly, Ragi Appam, Ragi Uttappam so we can make many dishes using Finger Millet or so called Ragi.
I usually prepare Ragi ball for lunch or dinner with some samber and Palya/Poriyal. In a week at least 4 to 5 times I try to prepare this recipe, I may prepare it for lunch or dinner it depends on the samber I have prepared on that day. Another recipe I often make in summer is ragi malt, its my all time favorite recipe and very healthy and cools the body too.

Healthy Ragi Roti or Finger Millet Roti
Ragi Roti or Finger Millet Roti is one of the healthy and delicious food. It is the best breakfast to start a day.
- 1½ Cup Ragi Flour
- ½ Cup Jowar Flour (Optional)
- 1 Onion chopped
- ½ Cup Grated Bottle gourd
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 or 2 Spring Curry leaves
- ½ Cup Drumstick Leaves
- 1 or 2 Green Chili chopped
- Salt (As per taste)
- Water (As required)
Take a large bowl add in Ragi and Jowar flour,
Add in Drum stick leaves chopped and cumin seeds.
Add in grated bottle gourd, curry leaves, coriander leaves, Green chili and salt.
Now mix all together by adding little water.
Make small balls and flatten them on the banana leaf or on wet cotton cloth. Put it on tawa.
Cook on both the sides. Serve hot with coconut or peanut chutney along with some ghee.
