Cluster beans poriyal is a simple, healthy and tasty side dish recipe. It can served as an accomplishment with sambar rice or with chapati.. The guar bean or cluster bean, is an annual legume, is the source of guar gram. Guar can be eaten as a green bean. Young, fresh cluster beans have a narrow and long body with tiny pods. They are very popular vegetables.

Even the young, fresh cluster beans need to be topped and tailed and may also need stringing. Just pluck the end of a cluster bean with your hand, and then pull downward; if a thick thread comes away, the bean need stringing., so do the same on the other side. The beans can then be sliced either using a sharp knife or with your hands. Cut or pluck them to pieces of one inch length.

While selecting the beans must be picked when young and tender as it becomes woody, fibrous and hairy as it matures and becomes inedible.

Cluster Beans Palya/Poriyal

It is one of the healthiest and tasty side dish. It goes well with steamed rice and samber, even with chapati.

  • ¼ kg. Cluster Beans (Chopped)
  • 1 nos. Big Onion
  • ¼ tsp Mustard Seeds
  • ½ tsp Channa Dal and Urad Dal
  • 2 Spring Curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves
  • 1 nos. Dry Chili
  • Salt (As per taste)
  • Water (As required)
  • 1 tbsp Oil

Dry Roast and Grind

  • 1 tbsp Peanuts
  • 1 tsp Roasted Channa
  • 2 tbsp Coconut chopped
  • 1 tsp Samber Powder or Chili powder
  1. Take a pan add in Oil, Mustered seeds, Channa dal, Urad dal, Onion, Curry leaves, Dry chili.



  2. Add in Chopped Cluster beans, Salt and little water.



  3. Add in roast and grounded powder, Coriander leaves. Close the lid and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.



  4. Now Cluster beans Palya or Poriyal is ready to serve.



  1. You can also add Green peas for extra taste.
