Mango Rice Recipe

Mango Rice is a South Indian popular rice recipe made with cooked rice and it is also known as Mamidikaya Pulihora in Telugu, Maninakayi Chitranna in Kannada, Raw Mango Rice, and Mangai Sadam in Tamil. It is one of the best breakfast and lunch box recipes. Further, it tastes tangy, sour, and spicy. Adding sugar helps to balances the tangy and sour flavour.

Preparing mango rice is very simple and quick as lemon rice, and tamarind rice. It can be served along with coconut chutney, masala vada, papad, chips, pakora, bajji, or bonda.

This Mango rice can be prepared in different ways. It differs from one region to another region, such as some people prepare by adding ground masala powder and some households just prepare by seasoning like lemon rice and then adding the grated mango and cooking till the raw smell goes away completely.

How to make Mango Rice Recipe:

Heat a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal, peanuts. Sauté till the peanuts turns slightly brown and crisp.
Add pinch of turmeric powder, chopped onion, curry leaves, and green chilies. Sauté till the onions becomes translucent.
Later add in grated raw mango. Give a mix and close the lid and then allow it to cook till the raw smell goes away completely.
Further, add salt to taste and sugar(optional).
Finally, sprinkle chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
At the end add in cooled cooked rice and add required amount of prepared mango gojju and give a mix, if required add salt to taste.

  • 1 Raw Mango

  • 1 Big Onions

  • 5 to 6 Green Chilies

  • Few Curry leaves

  • 1/2 cup Oil

  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 1 tbsp. Chana dal

  • 1 tbsp. Urad dal

  • 1/4 cup Peanuts

  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder

  • Chopped Coriander Leaves

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tsp Sugar
