It Yellikai or Citron is a citrus fruit resembling a lemon but larger with little pulp or juice and very thick rind. So, the fruit works the same as anything you’d use lemon rind for. The juice is very sour, and the skin is yellowish and smells lemony when the fruit is ripe.
It is one of the best and healthy breakfast recipe and also a healthy and tasty lunch box recipe. It is very simple and easy to prepare with minimal ingredients.
Ingredients:
Yellikai or Citron, onion, oil, peanuts, mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal, curry leaves, turmeric powder, cooked rice, hing, green chilies.
Methods:
How to make Yellikai Rice | Citron Rice:
- Heat a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal.
- Then add in chopped onions, curry leaves, turmeric powder, green chilies, salt to taste. Saute for 2 minutes in low flame.
- Then add in cooked rice.
- Squeeze yellikai or Citron juice.
- Switch off the flame and give a mix.
- Finally the healthy and tasty Yellikai Chitranna is ready to serve.

- Pan
- 1 cup Cooked rice
- 1 Chopped onion
- 1 Green chilies
- 1 spring Curry leaves
- 1 tbsp Oil
- Pinch of turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp Yellikai or Citron juice
- ⅛ tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Channa dal
- 1 tsp Urad dal
- Pinch Hing
- 2 tbsp Peanuts
- Salt to taste
