String hoppers or Idiyappam or Shavigeor is a healthy breakfast recipe. It is also known as Idiyappam, Shavige, nool puttu, noolappam. It is made of rice flour, ragi flour(finger millet flour). It is one of my all time favorite child hood sweet recipe. It is served with Coconut Milk Payasam and sugar or with spicy curries.
So, the ingredient used in this recipe are rice flour or ragi flour, hot water, salt as per taste.
Best Combo:
String hoppers or Idiyappam or Shavige + Vegetable Stew.
String hoppers or Idiyappam or Shavige + Sweet Coconut Milk.
String hoppers or Idiyappam or Shavige + Chicken Curry.

How to make String hoppers, Idiyappam, Shavige, Nool Puttu, Noolappam.
String Hoppers, Idiyappam, Nool Puttu, Shavige.
String Hoppers, Idiyappam, Nool Puttu, Shavige is a traditional and healthy recipe. It goes well with coconut milk, spicy curry.
- Large bottom pan
- Idly Cooker
- String hopper press
- 1 cup Rice flour
- 2¼ cup Water (It depends on the flour we are using)
- ¼ tsp Salt
- Little Oil

Heat a pan and add in water, salt and little oil or ghee.

Allow it to boil and then add in rice flour.

Give a mix without any lumps.

And then cook for 3 to 5 minutes in low flame.

Then switch off the stove and give make oval shapes.

Now stem cook them in the idly cooker for 3 to 5 minutes and switch off the stove and allow it to cool down completely.

Now take a string hopper presser and add in the steamed rice balls and give a press.(as shown in the image)

Finally the traditional and healthy string hoppers are ready to serve.
