This recipe is the oldest, simplest and easy fish recipe. Nellore chepula Pulusu is a spicy, tangy recipe. I saw this recipe in  one of the you tube video and I was tempted to eat, so I immediately tried this recipe and it came out very spicy and delicious. So, the ingredients used in this recipe are fresh water fish with bones, onions, tomato, curry leaves, coriander leaves for garnishing, handful of garlic pods, turmeric powder, chili powder, samber powder(optional), for grinding we need, coriander seeds, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds or methi seeds, oil, salt to taste, tamarind, green chilies, water as required.

Best Combo: Goes well with hot rice, ragi ball, idly.

How to make Spicy Nellore Chepula Pulusu Recipe or Fish curry Andhra Style:

Firstly clean fish and keep it aside.

Second step is to marinate fish with turmeric powder, red chili powder and some salt.

Allow it marinate for 10 to 20 minutes.

Soak tamarind and keep it aside.

Dry roast mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds till slightly brown.

Ground them into a fine powder.

Heat a pot and add in oil, crushed handful of garlic and fry till it slightly changes into brown.

Add in sliced onions, green chilies.

Once the onion becomes transparent add in sliced tomatoes, turmeric powder and cook till the tomatoes become soft.

And then add in grounded powder, chili powder(optional) has wee already added in marination. Give a mix and fry for 2 minutes.

Now take half of the cooked garlic, onions, green chilies into a mixer jar and ground them into a smooth paste.

Now heat a pot and add in oil, half of fried onions, tamarind juice, ground paste, salt to taste and allow it boil.

Once the gravy starts boiling add in marinated fish. Now check salt and spicy and add in according to your spice level and water as required. And then close the lid and cook for 15 minutes in low flame.

Spicy Nellore Chepula Pulusu Recipe or Fish curry Andhra Style is a delicious, tangy, spicy fish curry recipe with step by step pictures and instructions are given above.

  • Pan
  • Mixer jar

For Marination

  • 1 Kg Fresh water fish
  • ⅛ tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp Red chili powder

For Grinding

  • ½ tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 10 nos. Fenugreek seeds
  • 2 tsp Oil

For making Fish curry

  • Marinated fish
  • 2 Big Onion sliced
  • 15 Garlic pods curshed
  • 2 spring Curry leaves
  • 2 Green chilies
  • 1 Sliced tomatoes
  • 1 Lemon size tamarind
  • Red chili powder or sambar powder (For extra spice)
  • ¼ cup Oil
  • ⅛ tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required (Add as per your thickness)

  2. Then dry roast mustard seeds, coriander seeds and fenugreek seeds. And then ground them into a powder.

  3. Now heat a pan and add in oil, crushed garlic, sliced onions, green chilies, curry leaves and fry till transparent.

  4. Then add in sliced tomatoes and cook till the tomatoes are cooked well. And then switch off the flame.

  5. Now take half of the cooked onions, tomatoes to the mixer jar and then ground them into a smooth paste.

  6. Now again heat a pot and add in oil, half of the fried onions, ground paste, tamarind juice, salt to taste and allow it boil.

  7. Now taste test if required add in red chili powder or sambar powder, salt to taste and required water.

  8. Once the curry started to boil add in marinated fish and close the lid and cook for 15 to 20 minutes in low flame.

  9. Finally the spicy nellore chepula pulusu recipe or fish curry andhra style is ready to serve with hot rice or ragi ball.
