SANKRANTI YELLU BELLA OR ELLU BELLA
Is a traditional recipe prepared during Sankranti festival. Makar Sankranti or Uttarayan or Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Sankranthi in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. So, this is the suggi or harvest festival for formers. On this auspicious day people offer this Ellu Bella to theit family members and dear ones this ritual is called Ellu Birodhu.
PONGAL:
Pongal is celebrated as a harvested festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. It is usually celebrated at the start of the month on January 14 or January 15. Further, this festival is celebrated for three days i.e., Bhogi Pongal, Surya Pongal, and Mattu Pongal.
Ingredients:
Ellu i.e, Sesame seeds, fried groundnuts, cut dry coconuts, roasted channa, cut jaggery. Along with ellu bella sugar candy (sakkare achu) with a piece of sugar cane. There is a saying in kannada “ellu bella thindu olle maathadi” Means (eat ellu bella and speak only good). Sun god and cow is worshiped on this day.

HOW TO MAKE SANKRANTI YELLU BELLA:

Sankranti special Ellu bella or Yellu bella is a traditional recipe prepared during Sankranti festival. Makar Sankranti or Uttarayan or Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Sankranthi in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. So, this is the suggi or harvest festival for formers. On this auspicious day people offer this Ellu Bellu to theit family members and dear ones this ritual is called Ellu Birodhu.
- Pan
- Mixing bowl
- 1 cup Peanuts
- ½ cup Roasted channa
- ¼ cup Sesame seeds
- ¼ cup Cut dry coconuts
- ½ cup Cut jaggery
- ¼ cup Jeerige mithai. (Optional)

Firstly heat a pan and dry roast peanuts and remove the skin and keep it aside.

Then slightly dry roast roasted channa and sesame seeds and keep it aside.

Now take a bowl and add in all the dry roasted peanuts, roasted channa, sesame seeds.

And then add in cut dry coconuts, cut jaggery and give a mix.

Finally add in jeergi methai (jeera sweet) and give a mix.

Now the Ellu Bella is ready to distribute to the near and dear ones.
- It can stored in airtight container for one month in room temperature.
