Yummy Samme or Little Millet Sweet Pongal Recipe is a very traditional, healthy and delicious food. It can be a one of the best breakfast dish. It got many health benefits in it. Little Millet or Samme Millet helps in lower cholesterol and improves heart health.
You can also prepare sweet pongal with rice too. Even when you prepare with rice it tastes great and easy to prepare. Ingredients used for rice pongal is also same only the soaking of rice not required directly you can cook rice till soft and rest all the procedure is same.

You can also add different types of dry fruits of your choice. I have used here cashew nuts and raisins. Even we can use walnuts, pistachio, dates it tastes great and healthy. Adding freshly grated coconut gives extra taste to the recipe. Cardamom powder is added to not only for the aroma of the dish but also it enhances the flavor of the dish. Adding milk or coconut milk also gives more flavor to the dish but I have used water in this dish. More important is that to make it more authentic some people will add ghee which makes the dish more delicious and healthy.
You can also prepare kara pongal it can be a best combination with sweet pongal. Usually when we prepare kara pongal we also prepare Medu vada and Coconut chutney, it is a superb combination. I Love this combination and it can be a best and healthy breakfast to start a day with. But if you make the same recipe with millet’s it makes the dish more healthy and delicious. Samme or Little Millet Sweet Pongal Recipe
Little Millet Sweet Pongal Recipe is one of the traditional and healthy recipe. It has got many helath benefits.
- ¼ Cup Little Millet(soaked)
- 2 tbsp Moong dal
- ¼ Cup Jaggery Powder
- 2 tbsp Grated Coconut
- 1 tsp Oil
- 7 to 8 Cashew nuts and Raisins
- ⅛ tsp Cardomom Powder
- Pinch Dry ginger powder (Optional)
- Pinch Salt
- 1 tsp Ghee (Optional)
Firstly dry roast the Moong dal.
Soak the Little Millet overnight or at lest for 3 to 4 hours and pressure cook for 3 whistles along with roasted Moong dal.
Take a pot a add in oil and fry cashew nuts and raisins and keep it aside.
In the same pot add in the cooked millet and dal.
Add in the jaggery powder, dry fruits, cardomom powder, dry ginger powder and a pinch of salt. Give a gentle mix.
Now the Little millet or Samme Millet Sweet Pongal is ready to serve. Add ghee and Enjoy hot.
- You can also add other dry fruits also if you like.
