Bhuna Masala typically consists of onions, tomatoes, ginger garlic and blend of spices.
TIPS FOR SOAKING BEANS:
Before cooking it is very important to rise the dried red kidney beans or rajma under water, and remove the dirt if any. Then place the beans in large bowl and cover them with enough water. Allow the beans to soak overnight and 8 hours. This helps to soften and helps to cook faster.

Ingredients
Rajma Beans 2 cup
Oil or Ghee 2 tbsp.
Big Onion chopped 1
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Green chilies 2
Bay leaf 1
Ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp.
Red chili powder 1 tsp
Coriander powder 1 tsp
Garam masala 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Few curry leaves (optional)
Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing
Ghee 1 tbsp.
Salt to taste
Water 3 to 4 cups (adjust as per thickness you required)
- For Masala Paste
Coconut 1/4 cup
Fennel seeds 1 tsp
Cashew nuts 1 tbsp.
Pepper corns 1/2 tsp
Cloves 2
Cinnamon 2 inch
Nutmeg small piece
Directions
- Firstly, in a mixer jar add in 1/4 cup cut coconuts.
- Then add in 1 tbsp. cashew nuts and 1 tsp fennel seeds.
- Add in 1/2 tsp pepper corns, 2 cloves, 2 inch cinnamon, nutmeg. Grind it into smooth paste.
- Further, heat a pressure cooker and add in oil, bay leaf, cumin seeds, chopped onions and green chilies. Cook till translucent.
- Later add in ginger garlic paste and cook till the raw smell goes away.
- And then add in tomato puree and cook till the oil separates. Add few curry leaves.
- Further, add in 1 tsp. red chili powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder.
- Sauté till the raw smell goes away.
- Add in soaked rajma and give a mix.
- Now add in prepared masala paste and give a mix.
- Add required water and salt to taste.
- Close the lid and pressure cook it for 4 to 5 whistles.
- Finally, garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.
- At the end add in 1 tbsp. ghee and give a mix.
- Healthy and tasty Rajma Masala is ready to serve.
