Nethili Fish Curry is a very yummy, healthy and nutritious fish curry recipe with step by step pictures and instructions are given below. Nethili/Anchovy fish is a tasty saltwater fish that is shiny and small in size. There are many varieties of nethili/ anchovies. It is rich in vitamins, minerals.
Nethili Fish Curry is a spicy and tangy curry recipe. Adding coconut milk makes the curry mild, spicy flavor to the dish. This curry goes well with hot rice, ragi ball, idly. I personally like to have it with hot rice or ragi ball.
How to clean Nethili Fish:
Clean the anchovy (nethili), remove the head and wash the fish in running water.
Ingredients:
Fresh Nethili fish, onion, curry leaves, garlic, ginger, red chili powder, coriander powder, kashmiri chili powder, turmeric powder, water as required, coconut, salt to taste, tamarind.
Methods:
- Firstly clean Nethili Fish. For that remove the head of the fish first and wash it under the running water. Then drain off the water and add in rock salt and turmeric powder, give a quick mix. Then allow it to rest for 10 to 15 minutes. (it helps to remove the smell of the fish). After that wash it in a plain water.
- Now heat a clay pot and add in oil, crushed garlic. Saute till it turns into a light brown.
- Then add in finely chopped ginger. Fry till the raw smell goes away.
- Then add in chopped onions, turmeric powder. Saute till the onions becomes soft and translucent.
- Then add in red chili powder, coriander powder, kashmiri chili powder, turmeric powder. Saute till the raw smell of the spices goes away completely.
- Fry till the raw smell goes away and the oil separates the pot.
- Then add in required water and allow it to boil.
- Then add in tamarind water, salt to taste. Allow it to boil for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Later add in coconut milk and give a mix. Allow it to boil for 2 minutes.
- Then add in cleaned fish. Close the lid and cook for 5 to 7 minutes and switch off the flame.
- Add in fresh curry leaves and chopped coriander leaves.
- Finally the healthy and tasty Nethili Fish Curry is ready to serve with hot rice.

- Mixer jar
- 500 grams Nethili fish
- 2 big Chopped big onion
- ½ cup Coconut milk
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 6 Crushed garlic
- 1 tsp Red chili powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- ½ tsp Kashmiri chili powder
- ⅛ tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Tamarind juice
- Salt to taste
- Few curry leaves
- Water as required
- Coriander leaves (For garnishing)
