Cabbage Horse gram Side dish/ Palya/ Poriyal

Cabbage horse gram side dish or palya or poriyal is a healthy and tasty side dish recipe, it goes well with samber rice, chapati or rasam rice.

  • 1 Small Cabbage
  • ½ cup Horse gram
  • 1 Chopped Onion
  • ⅛ tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • ½ tsp Channa dal
  • ½ tsp Urad dal
  • ¼ cup Grated Coconuts
  • Few Curry leaves
  • ⅛ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 4 Green chilies
  • Salt (As per taste)
  • Water (As required)
  1. Soak horse gram overnight or at least 2 to 3 hours, and pressure cook for 3 whistles.

  2. Take a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal, onion, turmeric powder, curry leaves.

  3. Add in freshly chopped cabbage, cooked horse gram and salt as per taste, give a mix.

  4. Garnish it with grated coconuts, chopped coriander leaves. Give a mix.

  5. Close the lid and cook for 5 minutes in low flame.

  6. Serve hot with chapati, samber rice, or rasam rice.
