Appam without Yeast, Homemade Appam is one of my most favorite recipe. Appam is a type of dosa, originating from South India, soaked, grounded and fermented rice batter and coconut milk. It is one of the famous breakfast recipe in Kerala. It can be served for breakfast and dinner too. Usually I like to have appam with fresh coconut chutney or stew and sometime I like to have with sweet coconut milk. Even my sons favorite dish too. So, the ingredients used in this recipe are idly rice, urad dal, cooked rice, fresh coconut, water as required, sugar, baking soda, salt.

How to make Homemade Appam or Appam without yeast:

Appam without yeast, Homemade appam is a healthy and tasty breakfast recipe. It goes well with vegetable stew, sweet coconut milk, coconut chutney.
- Bowl
- Mixer jar
- Appam pan
- 2 cups Idly rice
- ¼ tsp Fenugreek seeds
- ¼ cup Cooked rice
- ½ cup Fresh coconut
- Water as required for grinding
After Fermentation
- 1 tbsp sugar
- ⅛ tsp Baking soda
- ½ tsp Salt

Firstly clean rice and fenugreek seeds thoroughly 2 to 3 times and then soak them for 2 to 6 hours.

After soaking drain off the excess water and transfer it into mixer jar, along with that add in cooked rice, grated coconut and little water.

Ground them into smooth paste.

Then close the lid and place it in a warm place and allow it ferment it for 8 hours.

After fermentation add in sugar, salt and baking soda. Give a mix.

If required add in water and give a mix. Appam batter should be thinner than dosa batter.

Now heat a appam pan and grease it with oil, then add in appam batter and swirl the pan, so that the batter should stick on all the sides of the pan. Then close the lid and cook fo 40 seconds to 1 minutes.

Cook till the sides becomes crisp and middle will be soft. Now the appam is ready to transfer it into a plate.
