ALOO PALYA RECIPE | POTATO PALYA

 

Aloo palya is a traditional and tasty side dish recipe made in South Indian Cuisine. It is very simple and easy to prepare. Further this yummy potato masala is served with masala dosa by stuffing it inside the dosa along with coconut chutney and tiffin sambar, and also served as a side dish with chapati, poori etc. and even served as an accomplishment with sambar rice, rasam sadam. 

 

With potatoes we can make variety of dishes such as paratha, bonda, baby potato biryani, side dishes, roast, salads, snacks like french fries, tikka etc.

 

Further it is also called as aloo masala, bhaji, potato stuffing for dosa, alugadde palya in Kannada, potato masala.

INGREDIENTS:

Potatoes, big onion, green chilies, peanuts, green peas, grated carrot, channa dal, urad dal, turmeric powder, mustard seeds, curry leaves, coriander leaves, dill leaves, oil, salt to taste, water as required.

HOW TO MAKE ALOO PALYA RECIPE:

 

  • Firstly rinse potatoes for 2 to 3 times and then pressure cook it for 3 to 4 whistles or even we can cook in a pot by adding required water, potatoes and salt. Allow it boil till the potatoes are completely cooked.
  • Once the potatoes are cooked drain of the excess water and allow it to cool down.
  • Then peel off the skin of the potato.
  • And then with the help of the smasher smash the potatoes or we can smash with the hands too, and then keep it aside.
  • Later heat a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal, sliced onions, curry leaves, green chilies, hing. Sauté it for 2 to 3 minutes in low flame.
  • Then add in turmeric powder, salt to taste, green peas, grated carrot. Give a mix and cook for another 2 minutes in low flame.
  • Further add in boiled and smashed potatoes and give a mix. At this stage if required add in salt to taste.
  • Finally garnish it with chopped coriander leaves and dill leaves.
  • Now the tasty Aloo Palya or Potato Palya is ready to eat.

 

ALOO PALYA RECIPE

It is one of the commonly cooked dish in south indian meals. It goes well with dosa, chapati, poori and as a side dish with samber rice or rasam. It is easy to make with minimum ingredients which are commonly avialable at home.

  • Pan or pot
  • 5 no.s Boiled Potatoes
  • 1 nos. Big Onion
  • 2 nos. Green Chili
  • 1 tbsp Peanuts
  • 2 tbsp Green peas
  • 1 nos. Grated carrot
  • 1 tsp Channa dal
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric powderr
  • ¼ tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 spring Curry leaves
  • ¼ cup Coriander and dill leaves
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • pinch Hing
  • Salt (as per taste)
  1. Firstly pressure cook the potatoes, remove the skin and mash them and keep it aside. Green peas, and grated carrot.



  2. Take a pan and add in oil, channa dal, urad dal, mustard, Onion, chili, curry leaves, Peanuts, turmeric powder and salt cook for a minute.



  3. Add in boiled mashed potatoes and peas.



  4. Add in coriander and till leaves. Now the Aloo or Potato Palya is ready to serve.



  1. Grated carrot and green peas are optional.
  2. It goes well with dosa, chapati, poori and even with rice.

Can we store potato masala in fridge?

Store it in an airtight container and refrigerate it, should be used within 2 days.

 

How long is it okay to store a vegetarian curry?

Curries can be stored for 2 days if properly stored in airtight container and refrigerated.

 

How long can you keep potatoes in the fridge?

Usually I don’t prefer to keep potatoes in fridge, rather we can keep them outside, it stays fresh outside for 7 to 10 days.

 

How long can one keep a boiled potato in the fridge?

We can keep boiled potato in the fridge max 2 to 3 days.
