How to make Kadal Curry or Puttu Kadal Curry
Kadala Curry/Puttu Kadala Curry
Kadala Curry/Puttu Kadala Curry is a healthy and tasty curry recipe, it goes well with kerala special puttu, and even with rice, chapati, dosa.
- Pressure Cooker
- Mixer jar
- Large bottom pan
- 2 cups Brown Channa or Kadala
- 1 Potato (Optional)
- 1 Big Onion
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 Bay leaf or Panda leaf
- 2 Cardamom
- 2 Cloves
- 1 inch Cinnamon Stick
- 2 Tomatoes
- 1 tsp Chili powder
- 2 tsp Coriander powder
- ¼ tsp Garam Masala powder
- ⅛ tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
- Salt to taste
- Water as required
- Coriander leaves for garnishing
For Grinding
- ½ cup Coconut
- 2 tbsp Cashew nuts (Optional)
- ¼ tsp Fennel seeds
Seasoning
- 1 tsp Oil
- ½ tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 Small Onion chopped
- Few Curry leaves
Firstly soak kadala or brown chanaa for 4 hours or overnight.
Then Pressure cook it for 5 to 6 whistles, and keep it aside.
Take a mixer jar and add in coconuts, cashew nuts, fennel seeds. Ground them into paste.
Heat a pan and add in oil, cardamom, panda leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves, onion paste. Fry for 2 minutes in low flame.
Then add in tomato paste, ginger garlic paste and cook till the raw smell goes.
Then add in red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder and salt to taste.
And now add in pressure cooked brown channa, chopped potatoes(optional) and ground coconut paste.
Add in required water, then close the lid and cook for 5 to 10 minutes in low flame.
Meanwhile we can prepare for seasoning, heat a small pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, chopped onions, curry leaves.
Then add in the prepared seasoning to the channa curry and give a mix.
Finally Kadal Curry or Puttu Kadal Curry is ready to serve.
