Tomato Samber or Beginners Tomato Samber

Tomato samber or beginners tomato samber is one of the simple and easy samber recipe. In this samber we need not to grind any ingredients directly we can make this samber. So the ingredients used in this recipe are avarebele, toor dal, tomatoes, onion, garlic, curry leaves, green chili, water as required, chili powder, oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, coriander leaves.

This is one of my favorite samber recipe and I learnt this recipe from my mother. I like to have it with hot steamed rice along with boiled eggs or papads. So, I thought of sharing this recipe. Even it goes well with ragi balls.

Tomato Samber or Beginners Tomato Samber

Tomato Samber or beginners tomato sambere is one of healthy and even very simple, easy to prepare. It goes well with hot steamed rice, ragi ball, dosa, idly.

  • ⅓ cup Avarebele
  • ¼ cup Toor dal
  • 4 to 5 Shallot onions
  • 5 Green Chilies (According to your spice level)
  • 5 to 6 Garlic cloves
  • 4 Medium Tomatoes (Ripe tomatoes)
  • 3 cups Water
  • Salt as per taste
  • Some Coriander leaves (Garnishing)

For Seasoning

  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • ¼ tsp Mustard seeds
  • ⅛ tsp Cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsp Chili powder
  • Pinch of hing
  • 1 Chopped Onion
  • 1 spring Curry leaves
  1. Take a pressure cooker and add in water and allow it boil, meanwhile wash and clean avarebele, toor dal and tomatoes and keep it aside.

  2. Now when the water starts boiling add in avarebele and toor dal and allow it boil for 5 minutes.

  3. Now add in washed and cut tomatoes, shallot onions, green chilies, garlic and salt as per taste. Then close the lid and pressure cook it for 4 whistle.

  4. When the pressure releases, smash the cooked dal and tomatoes with the help of whisk.

  5. Now for seasoning heat a tadka pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chopped onion, hing, chili powder and curry leaves. Fry for a minute.

  6. Now add in the prepared seasoning to the smashed dal and allow it boil for another 3 to 5 minutes in low flame.

  7. Finally garnish coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice, idly dosa and even with ragi balls.

  1. We can also use only toor dal instead of avarebele.d
