Sweet Potato Obbattu | How to make Sweet Potato Poli | Holige Recipe is a sweet recipe with step by step pictures and instructions are given below. It is made with sweet potato (Sakkaravalli Kiahangu), jaggery. This poli tastes similar to the purna poli or dal puli. We can have it without any accomplishments. But we can serve with ghee, coconut milk too, it really tastes just awesome. Sweet potato obbattu or poli takes less time for preparation when compare to dal poli. This obbattu is very healthy and tasty as it is made with sweet potatoes, they are rich in fiber and other nutritions. We can say it is one of the easy and quick obbattu recipe.
Ingredients:
Sweet Potatoes, Jaggery, grated coconuts, cardamom powder, pinch of salt, maida, chiroti rava, turmeric powder, water as required.
Methods:
- Firstly add in water and cleaned sweet potatoes. Cook them and keep it aside to cool down completely.
- Once the potatoes are nicely cooked, peel the skin and keep it aside.
Kanaka Making or Dough for binding:
- Now take another mixing bowl and add in all purpose flour, chiroti rava, turmeric powder, pinch of salt.
- Now add in water and give a mix.
- Add in little oil and knead to a soft dough. Dough should not be hard, it should be very soft.
- Once the dough it prepared, close the lid and allow it rest for 1 to 2 hours.
For Stuffing:
- Now for making stuffing we need to heat a pan and add in little water and jaggery. Then allow the jaggery to melt completely.
- Once the jaggery is melted completely, strain it, so that if there is any dirty, can be removed.
- In a pan add in strained jaggerey syrup, cooked and smashed sweet potato. Then give a mix without any lumps.
- Later add in grated coconut, cardamom powder, give a mix. Then cook for another 2 minutes in low flame.
- Now transfer it into another plate. Allow it cool down completely.
- Once the stuffing is completely cool down, make small ball shapes and keep it aside.
For making Obbattu or Poli:
- Take a banana leaf and apply generous amount of oil.
- Now take a small portion of kanaka or dough, spread it with the help of your hand, and place a prepared stuffing ball at the center and fold it.
- Again press it with the help of your hand evenly on all the sides. Apply oil to your hand while pressing.
- Press evenly on all the sides, as shown in the image.
- Now heat a pan and cook the prepared poli on both the sides, by adding ghee or oil.
- Finally the healthy and tasty Sweet Potato Obbattu or Poli or holige is ready to serve.

Sweet Potato Obbattu | How to make Sweet Potato Poli is a healthy and tasty poli recipe. It is very simple and easy to prepare.

- Tawa
- 250 grams Sweet potatoes
- ½ cup Grated coconut
- ¼ tsp Cardamom powder
- ½ cup Jaggery (Add as per your choice)
For making dough
- ⅛ tsp Turmeric powder
- ¾ cup Chiroti rava
- ½ cup Maida
- ⅛ tsp Salt
- Water as required
