Spinach is a leafy green vegetable. It is considered very healthy, as it’s loaded with nutrients and antioxidants.
Eating spinach may benefit eye health, reduces blood pressure levels. There are many ways to prepare spinach. You can but it canned or fresh and eat it cooked or raw.
Spinach is an extremely nutrient – rich vegetable. It packs high amounts of vitamins, folic acid, iron and calcium.
You can have spinach in the form of samber, Palak panner, Pakodas, Palak chapathi, palak poori.
Spinach/Palak Samber
Spinach samber is a tasty, healthy and delicious recipe. Atleast once in a week i would like to prepare this samber.
- 1 bunch Spinach/Palak
- 1 Cup Fenugreek leaves (Optional)
- 1 nos. Big Onion
- 2 nos. Tomato
- 10 nos. Gralic cloves
- 4 nos. Green Chili (as per spice level)
- ¼ cup Toor dal
- ¼ cup Channa dal
- 3 cups Water
- Salt (as per taste)
Seasoning
- 1 tbsp Oil
- ½ tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 nos. Onion chopped
- 2 spring Curry leaves
- ¼ tsp Cumin seeds (Optional)
Take a pressure cooker (can also be cooked in pot) add water, toor dal, channa dal let it boil for 2 minutes.
Now add in Onion, tomatoes, chilies, garlic.
Now add in spinach or palak and salt as per taste.
Now pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
After pressure cooking separate the water and dal leaves in separate bowl.
Put it in a separate pot and mash them with the help of masher.
Now add it to the dal water and boil.
Mix well.
For seasoning or tadka. Take a kadai add in oil, mustard seeds, onion, curry leaves. Add to the samber and cook for 5 minutes.
Now the Spinach/Palak samber is ready to serve with rice, ragi ball, chapathi.
- You can other Green leafy vegetables also. It makes the samber more healthy.
- Instead of green chili you can also add Chili powder.
