Spicy Chivda

Spicy Chivda recipe is a quick dry snack made with thin poha or flattened rice. It is a best tea time snack recipe. Chivda is an Indian snack mix which consists of a variable mixture of spicy dried ingredients and nuts. So, the ingredients used in this recipe are thin poha, curry leaves, peanuts, roasted channa, turmeric powder, oil, cashew nuts, dry coconuts, dry red chilies, salt to taste.

How to make Spicy Chivda or Poha Chivda:

Firstly sieve the poha and keep it aside. (It helps to remove the dirt)

Heat a pan and add in poha and fry them for 3 to 5 minutes in low flame and keep it aside. (It makes the poha more crispy)

Heat a pan and add in oil, peanuts and fry till it slightly changes its color or it becomes crispy.

Fry till crisp and keep it aside.

Add them to the poha.

Now fry roasted channa till it slightly changes in colour. And then add them to the poha.

Now fry cashew nuts till golden brown and add them to the poha.

Add in chopped dry coconuts and fry till golden brown and then add them to the poha.

Add in oil, mustard seeds, dry chilies, turmeric powder and salt to taste.

Add in curry leaves.

Now add in all the fried ingredients to the poha.

Spicy Chivda

Spicy Chivda recipe is a healthy snack recipe. It is one of the best tea time snack recipe.

  • Pan
  • 4 cups Thin Poha or Avallaki
  • 4 tbsp Oil
  • 1 cup Peanuts
  • ¼ cup Cashew nuts
  • ½ cup Chopped dry coconuts
  • ½ cup Roasted channa
  • ⅛ tsp Turmeric powder
  • 8 Dry red chilies
  • Few curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  1. Firstly sieve poha(to remove dust) and keep it aside.

  2. Now heat a large pan and add in sieved poha and fry for 2 to 3 minutes and keep it aside.

  3. In the same pan add in oil and fry peanuts, roasted channa, cashew nuts, dry coconuts till golden brown. And then add to the fried poha.

  4. And in the same pan add in oil, mustard seeds, dry chilies, turmeric powder, curry leaves and salt to taste. And then add in the same to the poha and give a mix.

  5. Finally the Spicy chivda is ready to serve.

  1. Can be stored in air tight container for 15 days.
