Mysore Rasam or toor dal rasam is a healthy and tasty rasam recipe. Rasam is a traditonal South Indian recipe which is served with rice in meals. Rasam is known for its medicinal effectiveness and good for digestion. How to make Tasty Mysore Rasam Recipe:
Spices required for making rasam powder.
Heat a pan and add in little oil, coriander seeds, pepper corns, cumin seeds, channa dal, dry red chilies, kashmiri chilies, fenugreek seeds. Roast them in low flame.
Now add in grated coconuts, roast them till it changes its color slightly.
Ground them coarsely and keep it aside.
Heat a pan and add in cooked toor dal.
Add in finely chopped tomatoes and curry leaves.
Add in turmeric powder.
Now add in tamarind juice.
Add in grounded spice powder.
Heat a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, garlic(optional), dry red chilies, curry leaves, hing. And then add them to the rasam.
Add in jaggery powder and salt to taste.
Finally add in ghee and serve with hot rice and papad or vada.

Ingredients
½ cup Cooked toor dal
1 tbsp Tamarind juice
1 Tomato
Few curry leaves
1 tsp Jaggery powder
1 tsp Ghee
Salt to taste
¼ tsp Mustard seeds
Pinch of Hing
4 to 5 Garlic
- For grinding
1 tbsp. Grated coconuts
1 tsp Cumin seeds
1 tbsp. Coriander seeds
1 tsp Channa dal
½ tsp Pepper corns
¼ tsp Fenugreek seeds
2 Dry red chilies
1 Kashmiri chili
Directions
- Firstly pressure cook toor dal and keep it aside.
- Heat a pan and add in oil, channa dal, coriander seeds, pepper corns, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, dry chilies, grated coconuts.
- Heat a pan and add in cooked toor dal, tamarind juice, turmeric powder, chopped tomatoes, curry leaves, grounded spice powder and salt to taste. Allow to boil.
- For seasoning, heat a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, garlic, curry leaves, hing.
- Finally add in jaggery powder and ghee.
