Laccha Paratha Recipe | Indian Flat Bread Recipe | lachay dar paratha

Is a healthy and easy paratha recipe with step by step pictures and instructions are given below, hope you all like it and give it a try. It is originated from Punjab, here Laccha means “ring” in Punjabi. So, Laccha Paratha or Indian flat bread with layers is  traditionally made with whole wheat flour or atta.  It can be made with wheat flour or all purpose flour too.

In a mixing bowl add all the ingredients and knead the flour into a soft dough and then fold it like a pleats to form a ring shape.  Again rotated in the form of rings and then each layer is brushed with oil and rolled it again with the help of rolling pin and cooked on tawa with oil or ghee or butter.

Laccha paratha can be served with your favorite subji, curries, gravies, or with dal fry or dal makhani too. Even some people like to have it with mango pickle or chutney on side. These parathas are also served as a street food, by making different variations and stuffing’s like paneer stuffing, aloo etc. Using these parathas we can make Laccha Paratha Roll, stuffed paratha.

Ingredients:

It is made up of Whole wheat flour, salt to taste, oil, water as required, ghee or butter.

 

TYPES OF PARATHA:

TANDOORI LACHHA PARATHA: 

It is a traditional recipe of Punjab. Further is different from plain paratha such as baking powder, baking soda, sugar, soar curd, ghee or butter, sesame seeds, and water as required to knead the dough. laccha paratha is cooked on tawa but the Tandoori paratha is cooked in a preheated cooker or oven and bake them for 5 to 8 minutes or until brown spots are seen. And finally sprinkle oil, ghee or butter and its ready to serve.

 

MALABAR PARATHA OR KERALA PAROTTA

It is prepared completely with All purpose flour or Maida. Where as the traditional paratha is made using whole wheat flour.

 

ALOO LACHHA PARATHA:

It is a rich paratha, as it is filled with boiled, mashed potato filling along with some spices are also added. Then the parathas are layered and filled with these potato fillings, rolled it into a flat bread and cooked on tawa. And its ready.

 

Other verities of parathas are  Karachi Lachha Paratha, Lahore Lachha paratha, Onion Lachha paratha, Quette Laccha paratha, Cheese paratha, Warqi lachha paratha, Fenugreek or Methi Lachha paratha, Green chutney lachha paratha, Masala laccha paratha, Multigrain laccha paratha, Mint or Pudina lachha paratha, Mirch lachha paratha, Paneer lachha paratha, Garlic paratha etc.,

 

Methods:

  1. Take a mixing bowl and add in wheat flour, salt to taste, oil and required amount of water and give a mix. Knead to dough consistency.
  2.  Then close the lid and allow it rest for 20 minutes.
  3. Take a small portion from the knead dough.
  4. Roll it and apply oil generously, and then sprinkle some wheat flour.
  5. Fold it like a pleats.
  6. Make a pleats, as shown in the image and roll it tightly.
  7. Further roll it flat with the help of a rolling pin.
  8. Roll it into a flat bread. We can see the layers on it.
  9. Heat a pan and cook the paratha on both the sides, by apply generous amount of oil or ghee or butter as per your choice.
  10. Finally Lachha Parathas are ready to serve with any gravy or curry of your choice.
