Flattened Rice/Poha/Aval/Avalakki sweet Pongal

Flattened rice or poha or aval or avalakki sweet pongal is a one of the simple, healthy and tasty sweet recipe and more over it is very easy to prepare. It is one of my favorite recipe. So, the ingredients used in this recipe are very minimal and handy such as, moong dal, poha, jaggery, grated coconuts, cardamom powder, ghee, oil, dry fruits like cahew nuts and raisins (even we can used other dry fruits like chopped almonds, dates too), pinch of salt, Oil, water as required.

It is one of the Navaratri special sweet, while it is prepared and offered has a naivedyum to goddess, during navaratri festival.

Flattened Rice/Poha/Aval/Avalakki sweet Pongal

Flattened Rice/Poha/Aval/Avalakki sweet Pongal is a simple, healthy and tasty sweet recipe with step by step pictures and instructions given below.

  • Pan
  • 1 cup Flattened Rice/Poha/Aval/Avalakki
  • 2 tbsp Moong dal
  • ½ cup Jaggery
  • ¼ cup Freshly grated coconuts
  • ⅛ tsp Cardamom powder
  • ½ tsp Ghee
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 9 to 10 Cashew nuts and Raisins
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ cup Water
  1. Take a pan and add in little oil and moong dal, fry for a minute in low flame.

  2. Then add in water and cook until it cooks and keep it aside.

  3. Soak poha of aval in water for 5 minutes and drain off from the water compeletly.

  4. Take a pan add in oil and dry fruits, fry till it turns golden in color. And then keep it aside.

  5. In the same pan add in jaggery and cook till it melts.

  6. Add in cooked mooong dal, soaked and drained aval or poha, and give a mix. Close the lid and cook for 2 minutes in low flame.

  7. At the end add in fried cashew nuts and raisins and sprinkle some cardamom powder and some ghee. Give a mix and serve hot.

Methods:

Take a pan and add in little oil and moong dal, fry for a minute in low flame.
