Coconut Obbattu or Kayi Obbattu

Coconut Obbattu or Kayi Obbattu is a traditional obbattu recipe. It is one of the sweet dessert recipe, usually prepared during festivals, marriages etc. So, the ingredients used in this recipe are freshly grated coconuts, jaggery, poppy seeds, cardamom powders, pinch of salt, all purpose flour, chiroti rava, oil, water as required, turmeric powder.

Coconut Obbattu/Poli

Coconut Obbattu/Poli is a coconut and jaggery stuffed recipe with step by step pictures and instructions are given below.

  • Pan
  • Mixing bowl

For Stuffing

  • 2 cup Coconut grated
  • 1 cup Jaggery
  • 1 tbsp Poppy seeds
  • ¼ tsp Cardomum powder
  • 1 tbsp Water

Dough

  • 1½ cup Maida/All purpose flour
  • ¼ cup Chiroti rava
  • ⅛ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • Water as required

For Stuffing

  1. Firstly switch on the stove and place a pan and add in little water and jaggery, allow it to melt.

  2. Add in grated coconut and give a mix. Close the lid and cook for 2 minutes in low flame.

  3. Now add in poppy seeds and cardamom powder. Give a quick mix and switch off the stove and transfer the mixture to another bowl and keep it aside.

Dough

  1. In a bowl add in maida, chiroti rava, turmeric powder and pinch of salt and give a mix.

  2. Add in little by little water and give a mix, knead the dough and add in oil.

  3. Close the lid and allow it to rest for 30 to 1 hour.

Making Obbattu or Poli

  1. Firstly take a piece of banana leaf, grease it with oil.

  2. Now take the dough and filling make them small balls and keep it aside.

  3. Now take a dough and place the filling in the middle, flatten them and cook both the side on the pan, Serve hot with ghee on it.
