Chicken Donne Biryani | Easy Donne Biryani is a traditional and tasty biryani recipe with step by step pictures and instructions are given below.

What is Donne Biryani: 

A dish served in dried leaf bowls. Here donne means a big cups made from eco friendly palm leaves. This special type of biryani is name donne biryani as the vendors serve piping hot biryani’s in donne (plam leaf cups).

Donne Biryani is a spicy, flavorful biryani recipe made with jeera rice (in this recipe I have used both basmati and jeera rice), along with the blend of spices and marinated chicken. This donne biryani goes well with onion raita.

Ingredients:

Jeera rice or Basmati rice, chicken, oil, ghee, spices like, fennel seeds, bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, pepper corns, onions, curd, turmeric powder, red chili powder, ginger garlic paste,  ginger garlic whole, green chili, mint leaves, coriander leaves, salt to taste, water as required, garam masala, kasuri methi.

 

Method:

How to make Chicken Donne Biryani Recipe:

  • Firstly clean the chicken by adding little turmeric powder. Rinse it in running water for 1 to 2 times and keep it aside.
  • Then take a large bowl and add in cleaned chicken, thick curd, red chili powder, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, salt, oil.
  • Give a mix and allow it to marinate it for 30 minutes.
  • Now heat a pan and add in oil, fennel seeds, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, pepper corns.
  • Then add in chopped onions, green chilies, ginger garlic. Saute till the onions becomes soft.
  • Once the onions are cooked, add in mint leaves, coriander leaves.
  • Once the mint and coriander leaves are cooked, keep it aside and allow it cool down completely.
  • Then transfer it into a mixer jar. Grind it into a smooth paste.
  • Again heat the same pan and add in oil, ghee, fennel seeds, bay leaf, finely chopped onions. Saute till the onions turns brown.
  • And then add in ground masala paste and cook till the raw smell goes away.
  • Once the oil separates the pan, then add in chicken, kasuri methi, garam masala. Cook for another 5 minutes. Squeeze lemon juice.
  • Then add in soaked rice, required water, salt to taste. Give a mix.
  • Close the lid and cook in low flame, till the rice is completely cooked.
  • Finally the traditional and tasty flavorful Chicken Donne biryani is ready to serve with onion raita.

  • 2 cups Rice
  • 2 big Onions
  • 3 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 5 Green chilies
  • 2 inch Ginger
  • 20 Garlic cloves
  • 5 Cloves
  • 2 inch Cinnamon stick
  • 2 pods Cardamom
  • 2 tsp Fennel seeds
  • ⅛ tsp Pepper corns
  • 2 Bay leaf
  • 1 tbsp Kasurimethi
  • ½ cup Mint leaves
  • ½ cup Coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups Water
