BROAD BEANS PORIYAL | AVARAKKAI PORIYAL | BROAD BEANS STIR FRY
Is a healthy and tasty recipe with step by step pictures and instructions are given below. Broad beans is also called as Avarai, Avarakkai (Karnataka). It is also called as flat beans, Indian beans. These beans grow on thick vines with broad leaves.
Benefits of broad beans are, they are loaded with nutrients, contain immune boosting nutrients, good for digestion, may aid weight loss, it is a good source of vitamins A and C.
Ingredients:
Indian Broad beans, onion, curry leaves, oil, urad dal, channa dal, mustard seeds, coconut, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, salt to taste, green chilies, garlic, little water.
Methods:
- Firstly clean and cut Broad beans and keep it aside.
- Then heat a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, saute till it changes its color to light brown.
- Add in chopped onions, curry leaves, saute till transparent.
- Then add in cleaned and cut broad beans. Close the lid and allow it to cook.
- And then add in turmeric powder and salt to taste.
- Take a mixer jar and add in cut coconuts, cumin seeds, green chilies, garlics. Ground them coarsely.
- Later add in ground coconuts. Give a mix and cook for another 3 minutes.
- Finally the Indian Broad Beans Poriyal is ready to serve.

Broad Beans Poriyal
Broad Beans Poriyal is a healthy and tasty side dish recipe. It is served as an accomplishment with rice, chapati. It is very easy and simple to prepare with less ingredients available at home.
- Pan
- Mixer jar
- ½ kg Broad beans
- 1 Small Onion
- 2 spring Curry leaves
- Pinch of turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Urad dal
- ⅛ tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Channa dal
- Salt to taste
- ½ cup Water (Add as per requirement)
For Grinding
- ¼ cup Coconut pieces
- 3 to 4 Garlic cloves
- 2 Green chilies
- ¼ tsp Cumin seeds
