Badam Puri

Badam puri | badam poori | badam sweet that is Almond Puri. It is a simple and traditional South Indian dessert prepared during special occasions and festivals. using maida or all purpose flour, almond paste or almond powder, sugar or jaggery, cardamom, oil for deep frying, semolina or chitori rava, chopped almonds for garnishing, ghee (clarified butter) and water.

Badam puri is a celebration of almonds, very easy and simple to make with easily available ingredients at home. It is almost similar to badusha, the difference between these two sweets are its shape and using of almond paste or flour in badam puri. Actually, almonds are soaked and then ground it into a smooth paste. Later this paste it added to the maida or all purpose flour, which give a nice flavor and taste to this sweet and it got the name badam puri.

Badam puri is a celebration of almonds, very easy and simple to make with easily available ingredients at home. Actually, almonds are soaked and then ground it into a smooth paste. Later this paste it added to the maida or all purpose flour, which give a nice flavor and taste to this sweet and it got the name badam puri.

Ingredients

  • Sugar Syrup
  • Water 1 cup

  • Sugar 1/2 cup

  • Cardamom powder 1/4 tsp

  • lemon juice (optional) 1/4 tsp

  • For making dough
  • All purpose flour/Maida 1 cup

  • Semolina/Chiroti rava 1/4 cup

  • Badam powder/Almond powder 2 tbsp

  • Ghee 1 tbsp.

  • Water (add as per requirement)

  • cloves 10

  • Making Badam Puri
  • Oil for deep frying

  • Chopped nuts (topping)

Directions

  • SUGAR SYRUP MAKING:
  • Firstly for making sugar syrup, in a pan add in 1 cup of water.
  • Add 1/2 cup sugar and allow it to melt.
  • Boil still you get a one string consistency. Once you get the right consistency, set aside and allow it to cool down completely.
  • DOUGH MAKING:
  • Now for making dough, in a bowl add in 1 cup all purpose flour.
  • Then add in 1/4 cup chitori rava / semolina
  • Badam powder/Almond powder 2 tbsp.
  • Add 1 tbsp. of ghee. Then give a mix.
  • Further, add required water, knead the dough.
  • To a little hard chapati dough consistency. Close the lid and allow it to rest for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Take small portion of dough.
  • Roll it into a flat bread. And grease with ghee.
  • Then half fold, and again fold into triangle.
  • again press it with the rolling pin into a flat bread.
  • prick a clove, it helps to intact all layers.
  • Repeat the same for rest.
  • Fry on medium low flame stirring occasionally.
  • Fry until puri turns golden and crisp.
  • Transfer to another bowl and drain of excess oil if any.
  • Then drop the prepared badam puri in warm sugar syrup completely. Remove it immediately if you want sweet and crispy badam puri or if you prefer more sweetness then soak for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Finally, topped with chopped almonds or any nuts of your choice and enjoy…

STEPWISE BADAM PURI RECIPE:

SUGAR SYRUP MAKING:

Firstly for making sugar syrup, in a pan add in 1 cup of water.
add 1/2 cup sugar and allow it to melt.
boil still you get a one string consistency. Once you get the right consistency, set aside and allow it to cool down completely.

DOUGH MAKING:

Now for making dough, in a bowl add in 1 cup all purpose flour.
Then add in 1/4 cup chitori rava / semolina
Badam powder/Almond powder 2 tbsp.
Add 1 tbsp. of ghee.
Give a mix.
Further, add required water, knead the dough.

Roll it into a flat bread. And grease with ghee.
