Drumstick Samber

Drumstick is one of those plant species whose seeds, flowers, leaves and stems are edible and extremely nutritious. Moringa commonly referred to as drumstick is treated as a super plant for its unique yet powerful properties that combat different aliments in our system.

Drumstick helps in digestion, boosts immunity, helps purifying blood. So, drumstick as many health benefits not only the vegetable but also the leaves are also very nutritious and healthy. So, it is good to have at least once a week in form of samber, palya/poriyal, soup etc.

Drumstick samber is one of our family’s favorite samber. We have it along with masal vada, pakoda or some palya/poriyal.If you have along with ghee it tastes much better. I like to have with ghee.

Drumstick Samber

It is a healthy and tasty samber and it has also got many health benefits.

  • 4 nos. Drumsticks
  • 6 nos. Beans
  • ¼ kg. Toor dal
  • 1 nos. Onion
  • 1 nos. Tomato
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 tbsp Tamrind juice
  • 1 tbsp Samber Powder
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • ¼ tsp Hing

Seasoning

  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 nos. Onion chopped
  • 2 spring Curry leaves
  1. Take a pressure cookerr and add water, toordal, one onion, 1 tomato, and beans pressure cook for 4 whistle



  2. Now shift the pressured cooked dal to another pot and add Chopped Drsome ghee(optional). Now the umsticks

  4. Add Tamrind juice and samberr powder



  5. Add salt as per taste. Give a quick mix and boil.



  6. For seasoning take a kadai and add oil, mustard seeds, onion, hing and curry leaves.,



  7. Now add the seasoning or tadka to the samber and cook for another 1 minutes.



  8. Add ghee, now the samber is ready to serve with rice, ragi ball, idly, dosa and even with chapathi. You can have with some papad, pakoda, poriyal/palya.



  1. You can enjoy with rice, ragi ball, idly, dosa and even with chapathis.
  2. For extra taste add 1 tsp jaggery.
