CHETTINAD MUTTON CURRY

Chettinad Mutton Curry or Chettiand Mutton Kulambu is a spicy and tasty mutton curry recipe with step by step pictures and instructions are given below. It is flavorful and delicious curry recipe from Chettinad cuisine.  It goes well with hot rice, ragi ball, chapati, parathas, poori, dosa, idly.

INGREDIENTS:

Mutton, cinnamon sticks, cloves, cardamom, curry leaves, oil, bay leaf, shallots, tomato, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, water, for garnishing coriander leaves, mint leaves.

In this recipe I have added boiled potatoes and green peas, but its purely optional to add. In my family we like to add potatoes in mutton or chicken curry and tastes really good.

Chettinad Masala Powder: Coriander seeds, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, pepper, dry chili, cinnamon stick, cloves, curry leaves, coconut.

METHODS:

  1. Firstly heat a pan and dry roast coriander seeds, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, pepper, dry chili, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom, curry leaves, coconut. Roast till it slightly changes its color and grind it into a smooth powder.2.
  2. Chettinad Masala is ready.
  3. Heat a pan or pressure cooker and add in oil, bay leaf, cardamom, one clove.
  4. Now add in onion paste or even we can add finely chopped onions, few curry leaves. Cook till the raw smell of the onions goes away.
  5. Now add in tomato paste and cook till the oil separates the pan or till the raw smell goes away.
  6. Now add in ginger garlic paste and saute for 1 minute in low flame.
  7. Later add in rinsed mutton pieces, turmeric powder and saute for 2 minutes.
  8. Add in the grounded masala paste, give a mix and add in salt, then pressure cook it for 4 to 5 whistles.
  9. After pressure cooking, finally garnish it with chopped coriander leaves and mint leaves. At this stage we can add in boiled potatoes and green peas (its purely optional).
  10. Finally the flavorful and spicy Chettinad Mutton Curry is ready to serve.

Spicy Chettinad Mutton Curry Recipe

Spicy Chettinad Mutton Curry Recipe is a flavorful and spicy mutton curry recipe. It goes well with rice, chapati, poori, ragi ball.

  • Pan or Pressure cooker
  • Mixer jar
  • ½ kg Mutton
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 3 Onion chopped or Paste
  • 1 Tomato chopped or paste
  • 2 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 spring Curry leaves
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • 1 Cloves
  • ⅛ tsp Turmeric powder
  • Water as required
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves and mint leaves (Garnishing)
  • Adding boiled potato and green peas (Optional)

For Chettinad Masala Powder

  • 2 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • ½ tsp Fennel seeds
  • ½ tsp Cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp Pepper corns
  • 4 Dry chilies
  • 1 inch Cinnamon stick
  • 3 Cloves
  • Few curry leaves
  • 3 tbsp Coconut pieces
  • 1 Cardamom
