Tomato Gojju | Gravy | Curry

Tomato Gojju or Gravy is a simple side dish recipe goes well with chapati, steamed rice. Ingredients used in this recipe are freshly chopped tomatoes, chopped onions, slit green chilies, oil, water as required, turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder, samber powder, chili powder, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal, granish it with freshly chopped coriander leaves

  • 1 Large Pan


  • 5 Tomatoes
  • 10 to 12 Crushed garlic
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 2 Green Chili Slit Optional
  • ½ tsp Samber powder
  • ½ tsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Channa dal and Urad dal
  • 2 spring Curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • ¼ tsp Mustard Seeds
  • ¼ tsp Cumin seeds
  • Coriander leaves Garnish
  • 1 cup Water Adjust as per required
  • ½ tsp Jaggery


  • Heat a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chana dal, urad dal, crushed garlic, green chilies. Saute till the garlic becomes light brown.
  • Add in chopped onion, curry leaves, pinch of turmeric powder, salt to taste.

  • Add in chopped tomatoes.

  • Then close the lid and allow it to cook, till the tomatoes becomes soft.

  • Then add in coriander powder, chili powder, sambar powder. Give a mix.
  • Then close the lid and allow it to cook till the raw smell of the masala goes away.
  • Add in 1 cup of water, 1 tsp jaggery and allow it to boil for 5 minutes.
  • Finally the healthy and tasty Tomato gojju is ready to serve.


  1. Add in sugar or jaggery if you want for extra taste.
  2. Add smashed garlic if you like garlic flavor in it.
