Vegetable Rava Upma | Kara bath | Rava Upma is a healthy, tasty and popular breakfast recipe with step by step pictures, instructions and videos are given below, hope you all like it. So, it can be served with kesari bath, coconut chutney too. It is one of the quick and easy breakfast recipe. We can add any vegetables of our choice like beans, carrot, capsicum, green peas, peanuts etc.

Vegetable upma is also called as kara bath, uppumavu, uppittu. It is most common breakfast dish in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh. There are variety of upmas like semolina upma, whole wheat upma, upma pesarattu, rice upma, kesari bath, aval upma/atukula upma, vermicelli upma.

Ingredients:

Rava Medium, Oil, Mustard seeds, Chana dal, Urad dal, Cumin seeds, Onion, Tomato, Green chilies, Carrot, Beans, Water as required, Salt to taste, Grated coconut, Coriander leaves for garnishing.

Methods:

How to make Vegetable Rava Upma | Kara bath | Rava Upma:

  1. Heat a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chana dal, urad dal.
  2. Then add in green chilies.
  3. Then add in chopped onions, curry leaves. Saute for 2 minutes in low flame.
  4. Then add in chopped tomato.
  5. Later add in chopped carrot, beans, salt to taste. Give a mix. Then close the lid and allow it to cook till the veggies are 70 percent cooked.
  6. Add in 3 cups of water and allow it to boil.
  7. Close the lid and allow it to boil.
  8. Add in roasted rava and give a mix without any lumps.
  9. Then add in grated coconut and give a mix.
  10. Close the lid and allow it to cook, in low flame.
  11. Finally garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.
  12. Finally the healthy, tasty and quick Vegetable rava upma is ready to serve.

  • 1 or 130 grams cup Roasted rava
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • ¼ tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Chana dal
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • 1 big Onion chopped
  • 2 spring Curry leaves
  • 1 small Tomato
  • 1 Carrot chopped
  • 6 Chopped beans
  • 2 tbsp Grated coconut
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Salt to taste
