Sihi Kadubu or Coconut Kadubu or Kayi Kadubu:
Is a healthy and traditional sweet recipe with the step by step pictures, instructions and video are given below. Kadubu is a steamed dumpling with a rice flour covering and a sweet stuffing inside. We can also make spicy kadubu too. Kadubu is a popular breakfast recipe from the Malanad region. But usually we make Sihi Kadubu on Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
Ingredients:
For stuffing we need grated coconut, peanuts, roasted channa, jaggery, cardamom.
For binding we need rice flour, water, salt to taste, oil, maida.
Banana leaf or turmeric leaf.
Methods:
- For Stuffing:
- Dry roast peanuts, roasted chana dal, sesame seeds, poppy seeds.Transfer it to mixer jar. Ground it into a smooth powder and keep it aside.
- Then heat a pan and add in water, jaggery. Allow it to melt.
- Add in grated coconut and give a mix.
- Add in grounded roasted powder. Give a mix.
- Finally the stuffing is ready.
- Divide them into small equal balls and keep aside.
For Binding:
- Now heat a pan and add in 21/2 cups of water and 1/4 tsp salt.
- Take half cup water and add in 1 tbsp all purpose flour and give a mix without any lumps. And then add it to the boiling water, give a quick mix.
- Then add in rice flour and give a mix without any lumps. Later close the lid and keep it aside for 10 minutes.
- Knead the dough to a soft dough.
- Roll it and cut it into a small pieces. Then make a round shape balls.
- And then place them in a wet cloth to avoid breaking and drying of dough.
- Close it in a wet cloth.\
- Take a piece of banana leaf and place the prepared ball shaped dough and press them in to a flat dough with a wet hand.
- Even we can use the smasher or any flat bowl to press the dough.
- Now take a karjikai or karanji mould and place the flattened dough.
- Then place the prepared coconut stuffing inside the dough and press it lightly and then remove the extra dough and keep it aside.
- Now for stem cooking, place the banana leaf or turmeric leaf and then place all the prepared kadubu.
- Stem cook it for 10 minutes in medium flame.
- After stem cooking allow it cool down for 20 to 30 minutes.
- Finally the Sihi Kadubu is ready to serve.

- 1 Big plate

- 1 tbsp Sesame seeds
