Finger Millet or Ragi is one of staple food of Karnataka, it is generally consumed as Ragi Mudde(Ragi Ball), prepared by adding water, enough ragi flour to achieve a dough like consistency. This healthy steamed dish is best served with sambar, chicken curry, mutton curry, fish curries, serving with Karnataka special Soopu Basaaru and Nati Koli Saru is very delicious and famous too. Another dish Ragi Kanji (porridge) is a commonly known as a healthy dish in the state of Tamil Nadu and even in Karnataka too. And one of the popular Dish of Karnataka is Ragi Roti, it is so yummy and healthy with coconut or peanut chutney. It is one of my all time favorite recipe.

INGREDIENTS

Ragi flour, Ghee or oil, shallots, cumin seeds, green peas, carrots, spinach, salt to taste, green chili, turmeric powder, spring onions, pepper powder, water as required.

How to make Finger Millet Soup or Ragi Soup:

Firstly take a bowl and add in 2 tbsp if ragi flour and half cup of water. Give it a mix without any lumps.

Now heat a sauce pan and add in little oil or ghee, cumin seeds, finely chopped shallots, saute it till the shallots becomes transparent, then add in chopped carrots, green peas. Saute it for 30 seconds.

Now add in little water and chopped spinach leaves, turmeric powder and allow it boil.

Allow it to boil till the veggies are cooked.

Once the vegetables are cooked, now add in ragi flour mix. Give a quick mix, if required add in little water and allow it to boil.

Add in salt and allow it to boil for 2 minutes in low flame. Add in water according to your consistency.

  • Mixing bowl

Ragi mix

  • 1 tbsp Ragi flour
  • ½ cup Water

Ragi Soup

  • 2 tbsp Chopped carrots
  • 1 tbsp Frozen Green peas or fresh peas
  • ¼ cup Chopped sipnach
  • 3 Chopped shallots
  • 1 tsp Oil or ghee
  • ⅛ tsp Cumin seeds
  • ½ cup Water
  • Pinch of turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Spring onions for garnishing
  • ⅛ tsp Freshly ground pepper powder
