Bottle Gourd Side dish| Poriyal | Palya is a healthy, simple and tasty side dish recipe with step by step pictures, instructions and videos are given below, hope you all like it.  Bottle gourd is also known as lauki, long melon, white flowered gourd or calabash gourd, running and climbing vine of the gourd family. Bottle gourd is loaded  with many nutrients.

Ingredients:

Bottle gourd, oil, onion, mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, salt to taste, coriander leaves for garnishing, turmeric powder. For grinding we need roasted peanuts, coconut, red chilies, curry leaves.

Methods:

How to make Bottle Gourd Poriyal | Palya:

  1. Firstly dry roast peanuts, coconut, curry leaves, red chilies by adding little oil for 3 minutes in low flame. And then keep it aside.
  2. Heat a pan and add in oil, mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal.
  3. And then add in chopped onion, few curry leaves, salt to taste, turmeric powder. Saute for a minute.
  4. Then add in chopped bottle gourd and give a quick mix. Then close the lid and allow to cook the bottle gourd. If required sprinkle some water.
  5. Once the bottle gourd is completely cooked add in grounded peanut and coconut powder. Give a mix and then again allow it to cook for another 3 to 5 minutes in low flame.
  6. At the end garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.
  7. Finally bottle gourd poriyal is ready to serve.

  • Pan
  • Mixer jar
  • 400 grams Chopped bottle gourd
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 Chopped onion
  • ¼ tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Chana dal
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • Few curry leaves
  • ⅛ tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

For grinding

  • ¼ cup Peanuts
  • 4 Red chilies
  • Few curry leaves
  • ⅓ cup Chopped coconut
